About your LGPS Pension
Hackney Pensions is a contributory scheme administered by the Hackney Pension Fund on behalf of the London Borough of Hackney. It is a defined benefit ‘final salary' scheme and is one of the most important and valuable benefits available to the London Borough of Hackney employees.
The Hackney Pension Fund not only provides you with a regular income after you retire but can also provide a lump sum. It also gives financial protection to your family or other dependants after you die.
The Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) is a statutory, funded pension scheme. As such it is very secure because its benefits are defined and set out in law. The LGPS is contracted-out of the State Second Pension (S2P) and must, in general, provide benefits at least as good as most members would have received had they been members of S2P.
The LGPS is a national scheme with each administering authority, county councils and London boroughs for example, have their own pension fund and membership. Hackney's own fund membership at 31st March 2009 was over 15,800 which included some 4,900 active members, 5,500 pensioners and 5,400 deferred pensioners.
